County Palatine: "County Palatine " refers to the count of the palace. He was the ruler of the Palestine. He always frowns. He is very sullen and morose. He listens to Jovial stories without smiling. Portia feels County Palatine will become a sad philosopher like Heraclitus, when he grows old because he is usually gloomy in his young age .Heraclitus of Ephesus is referred to as a weeping philosopher . He was a Greek Philosopher , who lamented the stupidity and folly of mankind and wept at everything in the world . He was so distressed that he withdrew from the world and lived alone in the mountains.

Nepolitan Prince: Portia describes him as a wild young horse . He is a dashing youngstar as wild as the unbroken horse , He only talks of his horse . He considers it to be a great accomplishment that he can shoe the horse himself.

Monsieur Le Bon:  As God has created him Portia considers him to be a man. He is more attached to his horse than the Prince of Naples. He beats the German Count for his bad habit of frowning - He has every man's fault but he is no man at all. He starts dancing immediately on hearing a thrush. He considers his own shadow as an adversary . Portia prefers to marry twenty husbands than to marry Monsieur Le Bon.

Scotish Lord: Portia speaks of Scottish Lord in a sarcastic tone. She refers to Scottish lords cowardice by calling him kind hearted and generous person.

Falconbridge, Young Baron of England : Portia says that Falconbridge the young Baron does not understand her just she does not understand him. He does not know any language and his grasp of English is very poor . He is a fine figure of a man but he can hold conversation by means of signs. He dresses incongruously in different styles and borrows manner from everywhere.

German, the duke of Saxony's nephew: Portia says that the young German does not have a good disposition, in the morning when he is sober , he is bad , in the noon when he is drunk , he becomes worse . when he is at his best he is a miserable type of man , and when he is at his worst he is like a beast.Portia does not wish to marry this young drunkard , so she requests Nerissa to keep Rhenish wine on the top of wrong casket - so that he choses the wrong casket being unable to resist temptation.
